There are two easy ways to give securities to the Pennsylvania Academy of Music...
1) The DTC Automated Stock Transfer System
To transfer stock using the automated system, you will need to supply your broker with the following information:
- The Depository Trust Company number for credit to Merrill Lynch
- The Academy account number at Merrill Lynch
- The Depository for Settlement – Merrill Lynch
- Complete the “special instructions” with donor's name and date of transfer.
Please call the Academy and tell us the name of the stock being transferred, the number of shares, and where it is being transferred from (i.e, J.P. Morgan, New York City) so that the Academy can alert Merrill Lynch prior to the transaction.
2) Mail in Separate Envelopes
- Send the stock certificate – DO NOT SIGN IT – unsigned and therefore not negotiable – in a separate envelope. Include instructions such as “these shares of (name) constitute my Annual Fund gift.”
- Send a signed stock power form in a separate envelope, with a copy of your note of instructions. A stock power form can be secured from your broker, from Merrill Lynch or downloaded here.
The certificate remains non-negotiable until it is joined with the stock power at the Academy. The date for establishing the gift-value of the stock is the postmarked date it passes from your control.
