  • Mission
  • Application and Interview The admission process provides an opportunity to determine whether the Academy's educational program and philosophy are well suited to the prospective student, and whether the student is prepared to accept the responsibilities necessary for success at the Academy. Prospective students and their parents must be aware that admission to the Academy brings with it the need for significant commitment in time and energy. The age at which a youngster will have attained the measure of maturity suitable for successful instrumental or vocal study in private instruction varies greatly. Therefore, the Academy offers workshop courses designed to introduce children as young as four years old to the elements of music.

    Application

Persons interested in studying at the Academy should fill out an application form. We also ask that you call the Academic Office at 717.399.9733 and request an informational packet which includes a catalogue. Once you have reviewed the catalogue, send your completed admission form to the Academy. An interview and/or audition will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.

    Interview and Audition

The interview, which is conducted through the Office of the Dean, is an occasion for prospective students and their parents to discuss their musical background, their instrumental preferences, and their aims and expectations. It is also an occasion for the Academy to explain its offerings and its requirements, to discern the needs of the prospective student, and to determine the appropriate course of study. The interview is conducted through a process of conversation and mutual discovery. Students who have had previous instrumental or vocal experience will be given an audition, so that the Academy can measure the student's level of proficiency.

    Registration and Enrollment

During the registration period, every student must complete and submit a registration form in order to reserve a place on the assigned teacher's roster or to reserve a place in a specific class. Payment for a single registration fee must accompany the completed registration form. The registration process including the fee is for both semesters (fall and spring) of the school year.

Students must register for either one or two full semester of study at a time. It is possible, however not recommended, to commence one's studies at the beginning of the spring semester. In fact, private instrumental or vocal lessons may be started at any time during the academic year, dependent on teacher availability; the tuition fee being prorated accordingly. Admission to classroom courses, however, is not possible after the third meeting of the class.

When the completed registration form has been submitted and the registration fee paid, lessons will be scheduled, and the student will be enrolled in the selected classes.
