Auditions Begin for Academy Choir Programs

Students in Grades 3 through high school are invited to audition for the Pennsylvania Academy of Music's 2006-2007 Children's Choir program by calling the Academy at 717.399.9733.

The Academy Children's Choir offers students the opportunity to learn about singing, music, performance etiquette and vocal repertoire in a fun yet challenging atmosphere. Choir rehearsals are held once a week, Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. starting September 6, 2006. Exercises, games, vocal instruction, snack time and more are part of the one-and-a-half hour sessions.  Students learn to sing in different languages and have many performing opportunities throughout the year. At least a half dozen concerts or other functions are scheduled for the session.

The Academy Choir is led by Rebecca Achenbach, who has taught choral music in grades K-12 for many years in Pennsylvania and California. Achenbach holds a music degree from Holy Names University in California where she studied with Liszt Academy artists focusing on the Kodaly singing approach. She has also studied in France and at The Juilliard.

Fees are required for membership in the Academy Choir, but numerous scholarship opportunities are available.
